This image was shot during sunrise from inside of a perfect curl. To be able to pull off a shot like this all of the conditions need to be perfect. The sun needs to rise at a certain angle which only happens during the summer time here on the island. I had to wake up at 5am and swim out in the cold ocean to pull this off. On top of that I need to make sure I am in the right spot and hope a good wave shows up in the small window I have. You get an average of 10 minutes to get the shot.
